Jack P. Bucher, age 75 of Gettysburg, passed away Friday, December 14, 2018 at Transitions Health Care. He was born Wednesday, March 3, 1943 in Gettysburg, the son of the late Harold and Erna (Perrow) Bucher. Jack was a huge supporter of his 1961 class from Gettysburg High School. During his high school years, he was class treasurer, on Student Council, participated in Football and Track and Field, was a member of the Campus Improvement Club, Mask and Wig club and performed in several plays, was also a member of the Choir. He received his Bachelor's Degree from Moravian College where he was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity and was in several stage performances. He, along with his father, owned and operated Meadow Valley Abattoir in Gettysburg until they sold it in the 1980's. He then sold life insurance for Lutheran Brotherhood, now Thrivent. After selling insurance, he built and operated turkey barns until his retirement. Jack was a faithful member of St. James Lutheran Church in Gettysburg, where he had served on church council and was active in the Faith and Fellowship Sunday School Class where he served as president planning many social events for the group. He was also a long time member of the Gettysburg Riding Club where he had served as president, Good Samaritan Lodge #336 F. and A.M. of Gettysburg, Adams County Shriners and rode with the Zembo Mounted Patrol in many parades including the Rose Bowl Parade. He was active in supporting the Shriner's Hospital in Philadelphia and transporting patients from Adams County to the hospital. Jack also initiated taking patient’s family members along. He participated in wagon trains that toured the Michaux State Forest. He belonged to the First PA Bucktails of the North South Skirmish Assoc. in Winchester, VA, which shot in period rifle competitions. He also enjoyed boating and attending Penn State football games. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Jennifer (Horick) Bucher. He is also survived by two daughters, Stephanie and husband Jeff Tomaszewski of Kunkletown, Mandy and husband Jason Ryan of Orrtanna, two sons, Christian and wife Robin Margetts of Charleston, SC, Seth and wife Brooke Bucher of San Diego, CA, step-son Eric French of Gettysburg, twelve grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, one sister, Ann and husband Gary Ratay of Gettysburg, many cousins, nieces and nephews. Jack had a great love of family especially his children and grandchildren. Jack loved life and lived it to the fullest. His love for family, friends and friends he had never met was the essence of his soul. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 South Main Street, Bendersville. A Celebration of Jack's Life will be held Wednesday, January 2 at 11:00 AM at St. James Lutheran Church, 109 York Street, Gettysburg with Reverend Andrew Geib officiating. A visitation will be held at 10:00 AM until time of services. Interment will be in Bendersville Cemetery.
