James S. Barbour, age 70 of East Berlin, passed away January 7, 2024 at home. He was born June 5, 1953 in Gettysburg to the late J. Kenneth and Virginia C. (McCarthy) Barbour.
James worked for Masland Carpet in Carlisle and retired from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, DCNR at Kings Gap Environmental Education Center. He was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Gardners, a life member of the NWTF and NRA and was a member of Upper Adams Fish and Game Association Inc. He loved hunting, tractors, NASCAR, the Pittsburgh Steelers, antiques and going to the family camp in Potter County. He also loved to cook and being “pap”.
He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Christine (Darhower) Barbour; daughter, Jody Keller and husband, Michael of Boiling Springs; son, David Knight IV and companion, Jenn McMahon of Carlisle; grandchildren, Ed Keller and wife Haleigh of Carlisle, Jenna Keller and husband, James of Mt Holly, Kara Scott and husband, Heston of Saucier, MS, Seth Richwine of Dillsburg, Ryan Keller of Boiling Springs and Michaela McAllister and husband, Chris of Belmont, NC. James is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Kathy Prosser of Camp Hill; nephew, Jimmy Prosser and wife, Becky of East Berlin; great-niece, Taylor Williams of Florence, NC; mother-in-law, Violet Darhower of Carlisle; sisters-in-law, Sue Darhower and Bev Sprout, both of Dover and Barbara Fry and husband, Steve of Carlisle and brother-in-law, Stephen Darhower of Carlisle. His cousins were very special to him and were like siblings.
Professional services have been entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 S. Main Street, Bendersville, where viewing will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 from 6:00 to 8:00PM. Additional viewing will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, 4200 Carlisle Road, Gardners, from 12:00PM until time of funeral service at 1:00PM. Pastor Jan Custer will officiate the service. James will be laid to rest at Greenmount Cemetery in Arendtsville.
