James C. Behney

James C. Behney, age 79, York Springs died Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at Gettysburg Hospital. He was born Thursday, April 13, 1933 in Huntington Twp., the son of the late James E. and L. Jane (Criswell) Behney. He was a retired dairy and beef farmer and was formerly employed by Haar's Auction in Dillsburg. James was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran church in York Springs where he sang with the choir and served on many church committees. He was past president and a life member of the York Springs Fire Company, past president and current member of York Springs Lions Club, past president and current member of the Adams County Farm Bureau and the Huntington Twp, Advisory Council, the HuntingtonTwp. Planning Commission, past secretary for the Sunnyside Cemetery Association, the York Springs Senior Citizens Club and the York Springs Senior Center. He also delivered Meals on Wheels and was an Honorary Member of the Upper Adams Jaycees.Jim was an avid bingo player, supporting many local fire companies. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jean (Bretzman) Behney, two daughters: Jennifer Aubel and her husband Raymond of Leesburg, VA, and Judy A. Behney of York Springs; son, James W. Behney of Dillsburg; two grandchildren: Matthew and Renay Aubel of Leesburg; two brothers: Chester Behney of Harrisburg and Irvin Behney of Phoenix, AZ; a sister, Susan Behney Nelson and husband Ron of York Springs and many nieces and nephews. Professional services have been entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 South Main St., Bendersville, where the family will receive friends on Sunday May 13, from 6 to 8 PM. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 14, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 216 Main St, York Springs, with Rev. Ben Leese officiating. A viewing will also be held Monday at the church from 10:00 AM until time of services. Interment will be in Sunnyside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 242, York Springs, PA 17372; York Springs Fire Company, P.O. Box 315, York Springs, PA 17372 or York Springs Lions Club, Secretary Vincent Kowalski, 212 Lindy Ave., York Springs, PA 17372.
