James A. Hankey

James A. (Turk) Hankey, age 80 of Biglerville, died Thursday, July 17, 2014 at Transitions Health Care in Gettysburg. He was born Friday, February 23, 1934 in Gettysburg, the son of the late Roy R. and Ruth C. (Harbaugh) Hankey. Turk graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1952. He was formerly employed by J.E. Baker/Magneseta in York for many years. Prior to working with J.E. Baker he worked for the Western Maryland Railroad. He attended Freedom Valley Worship Center in Gettysburg. He was member of the American Legion of Gettysburg and the Eagles of Waynesboro. Turk loved hunting, fishing, and working in his garden. He was also an avid Penn State and Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies fan. He served in the PA National Guard. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy (Hammond) Hankey. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Brenda J. (Bernard) Hankey. He is also survived by two step-daughters, Sheryl Robey of Biglerville and Bonnie Hammond of Gettysburg; three step-sons, Gary Robey of Biglerville, Larry Robey of Sykesville, MD, Scott Robey of Sebring, FL; eight step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandson; three sisters, Helen Perry of Stem, NC, Barbara McGrew of Mason City, IL, Joyce Hankey of Gettysburg; four brothers, Ron Hankey and Larry Hankey, both of Gettysburg, William Hankey of York, and Ralph Hankey of Harrisburg, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Carl and Marlin and two sisters, Anna Mae Hankey and Janet Hartman. Professional services are being handled by Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 South Main Street, Bendersville. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, July 21 at Freedom Valley Worship Center, 3185 York Road, Gettysburg with Pastor Marvin Stanley officiating.The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until time of services.
