James (Jim) Junior Howe passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 9, 2021 at home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware; he was 94 years old. Jim was born in Gardners, Pennsylvania on April 17, 1927, the child of the late James Hiram Howe and Elizabeth Ann Howe (née Bream). Jim was married for 53 years to his love, Estelle Marie Howe (née Hoff), living in both Abbottstown, Pennsylvania and Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. Jim served in the Army Air Corps at Stevenville Air Base in Newfoundland during World War II and was a master carpenter and manager at the Department of Defense Ships Parts Control Center in Mechanicsburg for 34 years after his honorable discharge. He was a longtime member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ in Abbottstown. Jim was also a member of the American Legion and the Freemasons. An avid outdoorsman, Jim loved fishing, hunting, nature watching, and long woodland walks. He and Estelle also enjoyed snowmobiling and camping while on beach vacations with their daughter, Sharon, and her family, whom he dearly loved and remained close with throughout his life. His woodworking and gardening skills were masterful. His integrity, humor, strength and kindness were extraordinary in the eyes of loved ones and strangers alike. Jim is survived by his son-in-law, Ronald Myers; granddaughters, Sara and Laura (and their partners Mark Ward and Dwayne Hearn); six great-grandchildren, Zachary William Michael Hearn, M. Sienna Hearn, Megan Elizabeth Ward, Isla Ciel Hearn, Asher Gracian Hearn, and Catherine Noelle Ward; sisters, Joyce Eichelberger (and her husband Eugene) and Kathy Line; and brother-in-law, Thomas Motter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Estelle on June 1, 2009; as well as his daughter, Sharon Myers on April 4th of this year; brother, Robert Howe; and sisters, Jeanne Motter and Elizabeth Gladfelter. Arrangements are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., Bendersville. A Visitation will be held at 10:00 AM. Monday, August 16 at Emmanuel United Church of Christ, 1 Center Square, Abbottstown, PA 17301, with Funeral Services following at 11:00 AM officiated by Reverend Barbara B. Brenneman. Interment will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery in Abbottstown. Should friends and family desire, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave. Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601, www.alz.org in honor of his wife and daughter.
