Jean B. Behney, age 90 of York Springs, PA, passed away on February 19, 2024 at Brethren Home, New Oxford from Parkinson’s disease. She was born December 30, 1933 in Menallen Township, Adams County. She was the daughter of the late Charles W. and Hazel (Dietrick) Bretzman.
Jean retired from the Naval Support Activity in Mechanicsburg after 33 years of service. She and her husband, the late James C. Behney, also had a dairy farm for many years. They raised beef cattle and crops, where she put in many hours farming alongside her husband and family. She was a graduate of Biglerville High School class of 1951.
Jean was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in York Springs where she was a former Senior choir member and former Sunday School teacher. She was a member of the York Springs Fire Co. ladies auxiliary and an honorary life member of York Springs and Heidlersburg Fire Co., where she volunteered in the dining room over the years. She was a member of the Huntington Township Advisory Council of the Adams County Farm Bureau for over 50 years. Jean was a member of York Springs Senior Citizens and helped deliver Meals on Wheels, and was an Honorary Upper Adams Jaycees. She attended Transitions Senior Daycare and also Wellbrook Senior Daycare services at the Brethren Home. Jean resided at Mission Point Healthcare Sun Valley neighborhood since June 2019. She was an avid BINGO player at Bendersville and Biglerville Fire Co.
Jean’s husband, James C. Behney, passed on May 8, 2012 to whom she was married for 54 years. She is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Behney Aubel and her husband, Raymond Aubel, Jr. of Leesburg, VA and Judy A. Behney of York Springs; one son, James W. Behney of Dillsburg; grandson, Matthew Aubel and his wife, Colleen of Lovettesville, VA; granddaughter, Renay Aubel of Clearwater, FL and great-grandsons, Raymond Jakub (RJ) and Keegan of Lovettesville, VA. She is also survived by one sister, Ruth E. Bretzman of Fayetteville; step-sister, Faith Heiner Bretzman of East Berlin and step-brothers, Roy E. Bretzman of Aspers and Michael J. Bretzman of Mechanicsburg as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four brothers, Paul E. Bretzman, C. Duane Bretzman, John C. Bretzman and Ivan R. Bretzman; a sister, Sara Bretzman Randall; step-mother, Eileen Heiner Bretzman; step-brother, Dale L. Heiner and step-sister, Carol E. Bretzman.
Professional services have been entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 South Main Street, Bendersville. A viewing will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 PM on Sunday, February 25, 2024 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 216 Main Street, York Springs, PA 17372 and from 9:00 AM until time of Funeral Services at 10 AM on Monday, February 26, 2024. Reverend Dr. Chris Suehr will officiate the Funeral. Interment will be at Sunnyside Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank all of the caregivers that took care of her at the Brethren Home and also those from Spring Grove Hanover VNA Hospice from March 2023 till November 2023. Caregivers are special people that show so much love, compassion and patience to those they care for. We are forever grateful for your service.
