Jean M. Poland, age 83 of Gettysburg, passed away Thursday, September 28, 2017 at SpiriTrust Lutheran Home in Gettysburg. She was born Tuesday, September 18, 1934 in Bonneauville, the daughter of the late Harry W. and Regina (Orndorff) Smith. Jean "Whitie" was a daycare provider for many years. She was a member of St Joseph's Catholic Church in Bonneauville. She was also a member of the former Bonneauville Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. Her husband, Donald M. Poland passed in 1985. She is survived by one daughter, Sharon A. and husband Andy Groft of Hanover, three sons, Donald, Jr. and wife Anita Poland of McSherrystown, Jerry K. and wife Pam Poland of Littlestown, Bradley and wife Sherrin Poland of Myrtle Beach, SC, seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and one sister, Ruth Black of New Oxford. She was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Henschke, Shirley Henschke, Madelyn S. Smith, Mercedes Staub and brothers Harold, Fred, Robert, Norm and George Smith. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home, Inc. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, October 2 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 22 W. High Street, Gettysburg with Reverend Father Daniel Mitzel officiating. Interment will be in Bendersville Cemetery. A viewing will be held Sunday, October 1 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Dugan Funeral Home, 111 S. Main Street, Bendersville.
