Jean T. Swope, age 86 of Biglerville, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 7, 2015 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born Friday, November 23, 1928 in New Windsor, MD the daughter of the late Edwin W. and Henrietta A. (Snader) Talbot. Jean graduated from Westminster High School in 1945. Before getting married, she and her sister Jane worked at J.C. Penney in Westminster, MD. She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Arendtsville. She volunteered at the National Apple Harvest Festival and Upper Adams Meals on Wheels. Jean had worked at several places in the Biglerville area including Taylor Brothers Grocery, C.H. Musselmans and Gettysburg Hospital. Jean was a remarkable woman who achieved her final goals of Christmas, New Years, her anniversary, and one final trip (vacation day) to Hollywood casino. Her first husband, Carl B. Taylor passed in 1973. She is survived by her husband Charles L. Swope to whom she was happily married for 40 years as of January 4, 2015. She is also survived by a daughter, Linda Wentworth of Lynn Haven, FL and three sisters, Alice T. Galbraith of Waynesboro, Bernice T. Beard of Westminster, MD and twin sister, Jane T. Taylor of Biglerville, three grandchildren, Brian C. Wentworth of Panama City, FL, Carla A. Plank of Lynn Haven and Ryan E. Taylor of Biglerville, two great-grandchildren, Anna Fondren and Michael Fondren, three step-children, Judy (Ed) Shultz of Gettysburg, Larry (Pat) Swope of West Virginia and Joan (Bill) Noll of New Oxford. She was preceded in death by her son, Edwin B. Taylor and her grandson, Andrew B. Taylor. Professional services are being handled by Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 South Main Street, Bendersville. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, February 12 at Zion United Church of Christ, Gettysburg Street, Arendtsville with Reverend Dr. Kim Blocher officiating. Interment will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be held at the church on Thursday from 12:00 noon until time of services.
