Jean K. Wasson

January 25, 1926 — December 30, 2016

Jean Kriner McTaggart Overton Wasson, age 90 of Chambersburg and Ellenton, FL, passed away at Chambersburg Hospital on Friday, December 30, 2016. She was born in Brownsville, PA, the daughter of the late Harry L. and DeRose H. Kriner on Monday, January 25, 1926. Jean Graduated in 1943 from Susquehanna Township High School, Harrisburg and from Shippensburg University in 1947 with a B.S. in Education. She earned a master's degree from Webster University in St. Louis, MO. Jean taught 1st and 2nd grades for 32 years, in Altoona, Chambersburg, Los Angeles, San Francisco and St. Louis. She was a master teacher with many student teachers under her tutelage. She maintained an active interest in drama, both performing and directing; and in music. She was a member of Presbyterian churches wherever she lived, was an ordained elder, and for 73 years was a faithful choir member and featured soloist. She served on many committees at Shippensburg University as an alumna. Jean was active in numerous civic and bridge clubs, enjoyed dancing, volunteering and taking trips and cruises. Jean is survived by her daughter, Vicki M. Rosenthal and husband Albert Schneppershoff of Los Angeles, a step-daughter, Julie W. and husband Clyde C. Peck; a step-son, Ken R. and wife Marlen Wasson of San Francisco, two nephews, David and wife Susan Rohr and Robert F. and wife Jeanne Rohr; all of Shippensburg, and a niece, Nancy Corson of Exton. Jean was predeceased by three husbands, Wells R. McTaggart, Albert G. Overton and George F. Wasson and her only sister, Doris K. Rohr. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Shippensburg. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 15 at 2:00 PM at Menno Village, Chambersburg with Chaplain Vernon Eisner officiating. In lieu of flowers, Jean requested donations be made to the Dr. Harry L. Kriner Memorial Scholarship, Shippensburg University Foundation,1871 Old Main Drive, Shippensburg, PA 17257 or Menno Haven Benevolent Fund, Menno Haven Retirement Communities, 2011 Scotland Avenue, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
