Joan R. Becker

Joan R. Becker, age 78 of Gettysburg, formerly of Biglerville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 26, 2013 at Golden Living Center in Gettysburg. She was born Friday, May 10, 1935 in Orrtanna, the daughter of the late Russell S. and Marian V. (Eyler) Meisenhelter . Joan graduated from Biglerville High School Class of 1954. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.Prior to meeting her husband, she was an operator supervisor at United Telephone in Hanover. She was a babysitter for many children in the Upper Adams area. She loved to sew, bake and can. She was an avid home shopper. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She loved her granddog Sugar. She is survived by two daughters: Marian E. Becker of Biglerville and Jeraldine R. Roberts wife of Peter of Arendtsville; one son, John L. Becker husband of Laura of New Cumberland; two granddaughters: Laura A. Roberts and Charlotte V. Roberts; three sisters: Mary M. Werner and Doris J. Adams, both of Hanover and Diane V. Elsbree of Thurmont, MD. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Erwin Stanley Becker. Professional services are being handled by Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 South Main Street, Bendersville. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday January 4, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. at Dugan Funeral Home with Reverend John Santino officiating. The family will welcome friends from 12:00 until the time of the Celebration.Interment will be held in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
