Joan Louise Tanner, age 79, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, October 15, 2017 in Fayetteville, PA surrounded by her family. She was born on December 4, 1937 in Washington D.C., the daughter of the late Maurice E. and Mary L. (Hall) Federline. Joan graduated in June 1956 from Bladensburg High School. After graduation she worked for the Bureau of Medical and Surgery and retired in 1991 after 35 years of service as a budget analyst from the Naval Medical Command. Joan enjoyed sewing, crafting, needlepoint, cooking, baking, gardening and her cats. She enjoyed years of assisting with delivery of "Meals of Wheels." After retiring in 1991, she relocated from her home in Laurel, MD to Penn National Estates Community in south central PA. An original member of the Crafty Ladies Club, Joan stayed active in community, charitable and social activities. She was devoted to her family and extended relatives. She is survived by her loving, long-time companion life-partner, Wayne Glover; her daughter, Robin (Gaines) Wells and her husband Michael of Huntingtown, MD; grand-daughter Michelle (Brady) Petinga and husband Mark of Elkridge, MD; granddaughter Amanda Brady and fiancé Matthew Lusk of St. Leondard, MD; and grandson Sean Brady of Royal Oak, MI. She is also survived by her sisters, Linda (Federline) Ragland and husband John of New Windsor, MD and Brenda (Federline) Gamache and husband Butch of Seymour, TN. She was preceded in death by her aunt, Doris Louise Jessie, who was a special person in Joan's life. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 23 at 11:00 AM with Reverend Daniel Summers officiating at Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, 51 Asper Drive, Shippensburg, PA 17257. A visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until time of services. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Joan's name to Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 5051 Letterkenny Road West, Chambersburg, PA 17201 or by visiting cvas-pets.org. or SpiriTrust Hospice, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17202.
