Joanne Ruth (Black) Slonaker, 66, of Chambersburg and formerly of Wenksville died Saturday, August 27, 2011 at home and surrounded by her loving family after a long battle with cancer. She was born on Saturday, March 3, 1945 in Gettysburg the daughter of George, who survives her, and the late Ruth (Orner) Black. Joanne married David C. Slonaker, who survives her, on September 16, 1994. Joanne graduated from Biglerville High School as part of the class of 1963 after which she attended the Carlisle School of Nursing. She was a life-long member of St. James Lutheran Church in Wenksville. Joanne had many hunting and fishing friends in the Cross Fork area of Potter County. She loved her rides around her Cross Fork home viewing wildlife and then trading stories with her friends about what she had encountered. Joanne's survivors include her loving husband of over 16 years,David C. Slonaker;her son, Timothy A. Cook and his wife Dawn of Aspers;her daughter: Leah C. Reider and her husband Charles of Gettysburg;a step-daughter, Kim Slonaker of Chambersburg; one grandson, Landen Wiles; three granddaughters: Laken Wiles, Sierra Cook, Kinsey Cook; one step-granddaughter, Alex Reider; one brother, William Black; and a sister, Barbara Mahoney. All are welcome to join Joanne's family at her viewing on Tuesday, August 30, 2011from 6:00 to 8:00 at Dugan Funeral Home in Bendersville and at her funeral service on Wednesday, August 31,at 10:00 AMat St. James Lutheran Church in Wenksville with Pastor Robert S. McEllroy III officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Wenksville Cemetery. Joanne's family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at her church following the burial. Honored to be pallbearers are: Jerry Mahoney, Lorne Peters, Charles Reider, Bruce Slonaker, John Slonaker, Travis Slonaker and Ronnie Sweeney.
