Joanne M. Showers

Joanne M. Showers, age 82 of Biglerville, passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at Gettysburg Hospital. She was born Tuesday, March 7, 1933 in Bedford County, the daughter of the late Francis and Iva (Batzel) Miller. Joanne was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was a member of Benders Evangelical Lutheran Church and Ira E. Lady American Legion Post 262 Auxiliary. Her hobbies included reading, crocheting, playing cards and games. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and attending all their special events. She was a lover of old movies, especially Gene Autry. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Joseph L. Showers. She is also survived by three daughters, Kathy J. and husband Larry Sassaman of Mechanicsburg, Diane K. and husband George Taughinbaugh of Biglerville, Jennifer L. and husband Bob Uber of Biglerville, one son, Joseph A. and wife Sheila Showers of Aspers, eight grandchildren: Kristin and Andrew Sassaman of Mechanicsburg, Ashton Taughinbaugh of Lancaster and Tyrel (Liz) Taughinbaugh of Gettysburg, Mallory (Alex) Hewitt of Biglerville, Grant Uber of Arlington, VA, Dayne and Denton Showers of Aspers and two great-grandchildren, Colton Hewitt and Carson Taughinbaugh and one brother, Jack Miller of Florida. She was preceded in death by her step-mother, Grace (Penrod) Miller, three step-sisters, Vera, Elda and Irene and two brothers, Galen and Paul. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 South Main Street, Bendersville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 24 at Benders Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1385 Rentzel Road, Biglerville with Reverend Susan J. McCarthy officiating. Interment will be in Benders Union Cemetery. A viewing will be held at the funeral home on Monday, November 23 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until time of services.
