John Robert Clas, Sr.

John Robert “Bob” Clas, Sr., age 83, of York Springs, passed away Thursday, July 6, 2023 at his residence. He was born September 9, 1939 in Baltimore, to the late Edward Allen and Marguerite Agnes (Keene) Clas.

He was a retired veteran of the US Navy in the submarine division which he served for more than 30 years. John was a life member of the SubVets Naval Enlisted Reserves, American Legion Sykesville Memorial Post #223 in Sykesville, MD, Winfield Community Fire Department, Steam Fitters Local 438 and Lions Club Roaring Run in Finksburg, MD. He was employed as a HVAC technician until his retirement. John enjoyed farming and trains.

Surviving is his wife of 63 years, Regina E. (Smith) Clas; four daughters, Laura J. Ganske and her husband, Tim of Westminster, MD, Jackie M. Whittington and her husband, Francis E. of MD, Amy M. Alder of Woodbine, MD and Sally A. Clas and her companion, John Carbaugh of York Springs; three sons; Bob Clas, Jr., of MD, David A. Clas and his wife, Debra of Sykesville, MD and Charles L. Clas and his wife, Janeth of Denver, CO; 18 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Heidi Corbin and Helena Clas and four brothers; Joe Clas, Paul Clas, Richard Clas and Pete Clas. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Mark Joseph Golliday.

Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 South Main St., Bendersville. A Public Viewing will be held Thursday, July 13, 2023 from 10:00-11:00 AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Parish, 6084 West Canal Road, Abbottstown, PA 17301. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow the viewing at 11:00 AM at the church with Fr. Philip Burger as Celebrant. Interment will be private at Indiantown Gap VA National Cemetery, Annville, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John’s memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
