John Wayne Jones

John, “Deacon”, Wayne Jones, age 83, of Shippensburg, passed away Monday, April 11, 2022 at Chambersburg Hospital. He was born October 21, 1938 in Shippensburg, the son of the late Jesse Jones and Leora (Booz) Jones, who passed when he was young and stepmother, Orpha Jones. John attended in the Class of 1956 from Shippensburg High School. He went on and served in the US Navy. Later, he worked as a moulder for 30 years at Chambersburg Engineering Company. He was a member of American Legion Post 223 in Shippensburg. After retirement, he was the owner of J & R Auto in Shippensburg and sold cars there. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and going out to eat with his family. John is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Romaine (Myers) Jones, daughter, Janene Jones of Shippensburg, three sons; Jeffrey Jones of Newburg, Jason Jones and his wife, Michelle of Swisher, IA, and John Kibler Jones and his wife, Diann of Chambersburg, sister, Ethel Palmer of Shippensburg, eleven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his five siblings, Louise Karper, Chester Jones, Leroy Jones, Bernita Bistline and Beatrice Waggoner. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Shippensburg. On Wednesday, May 4, at 10:00 AM, Pastor Fran Norton will conduct the Celebration of Life Service at Messiah Methodist Church, 30 South Penn Street, Shippensburg. Burial will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens, 3218 Philadelphia Avenue, Chambersburg. Following the burial, a reception will be held at the Messiah Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in John’s memory to your local VFW or American Legion.
