Joseph L. Bosak, Sr.

June 1, 1925 — February 7, 2016

Joseph L. Bosak, Sr., age 90 of Bendersville, passed away Sunday, February 7, 2016 at York Hospital. He was born Monday, June 1, 1925 in Chester, PA, the son of the late John and Anna (Krivda) Bosak. After Joe's service in the Navy, he began to work at the Naval Supply Depot in Mechanicsburg, where he worked until 1966. In 1966, he began working as postmaster in Bendersville until his retirement in 1980. After retirement, he worked at Knouse Foods in various capacities for almost 30 years. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Gettysburg, where he servedon the first Advisory Committee, Ira E. Lady American Legion Post 262 in Biglerville, where he served as Post Commander, Post Adjutant and Chaplain for many years. He belonged to the Veteran's of Foreign Wars Post 15 in Gettysburg, Amvets Post 172 in Fairfield, the National Postmasters Assoc and AARP. He was secretary/ Treasurer of the York-Adams County Postmasters Association until his retirement in 1980.He served on the Bendersville Planning Commission, and as secretary of the Shoshonean Gun Club. He had served as past president of the Adams County PTA and as past president of the Bendersville PTA.He managed the Little League Yankees of Bendersville, umpired for the Upper Adams Girls Softball League and was a life member of the Bendersville Fire Company where he had served as secretary. He served in the US Navy during World War II. He was in the European Theater of Operations prior to and during D-Day. He also served aboard the Sub Tender USS Apollo AS-25 and the Battleship USS Missouri BB-63. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy M.(Black) Bosak. He is also survived by two daughters, Catherine A. and husband Joseph Yeck of Gettysburg, Teresa S. and husband Skip Earley of Carlisle, one son, Joseph L. Jr. and wife Barbara Bosak, of Biglerville, six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Elizabeth Hays and Amelia Ogden and brother, John Bosak. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home, Inc. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, February 12 at Dugan Funeral Home, 111 South Main St., Bendersville with Fr. Daniel Richards officiating. Interment will be in Bendersville Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, February 11. Memorial contributions may be made to Bendersville Community Fire Company, P.O. Box 254, Bendersville, PA 17306.
