Junior W. Wirt

Junior W. Wirt, age 95 of Gettysburg, passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at the Bridges at Bent Creek in Mechanicsburg. He was born Wednesday, October 25, 1922 in Bendersville, the son of the late John S. and Gladys M. (Slaybaugh) Wirt. Junior grew up on a farm. He worked at a silk factory and was a machine operator for Rice, Trew and Rice in Biglerville for many years. He worked for Meadow Valley Abbatoir in Gettysburg. He delivered fuel for Aero Oil (Getty) until his retirement. After retirement, he drove vans for Apple Line and Jacoby Transportation. He was a member of Mt. Olivet United Brethren in Christ Church in Guernsey. He was a manager of Eagles, Big Little League Baseball Team in the 1960's. Junior enjoyed throwing horseshoes and was an avid card player. His best times were mowing his many acres and blowing snow in the winter. He received many trophies while bowling for different teams and enjoyed deer hunting with his father and son. He also enjoyed eating ice cream and made homemade ice cream during the winter months. Junior and his wife Nadine, built their home on the Biglerville Road from the rocks up in the 1940's, with help from his father, John, father-in-law, Amos and grandfather, Albert. He served in the US Army at Ft. Belvoir, VA during World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife Nadine E. Wirt, who passed away in 2013 and one sister Darlene Shealer. He is survived by his son, William E. and wife Rebecca Wirt of Ft. Wayne, IN, his daughter, Vickie C. Eastlack of Mechanicsburg, nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 S. Main Street, Bendersville. Funeral Services will be held Monday, February 19 at 11:00 AM at Dugan Funeral Home with Reverend Craig Loewen officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery in Arendtsville. A viewing will be held from 9:30 AM until time of services. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt.
