Keith "Smitty" Lawrence Smith

Keith Lawrence "Smitty" Smith, age 75 of Chambersburg, former longtime resident of Prince William County, VA, passed away Sunday, July 6, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born Monday, April 17, 1939 in Manhattan, New York, the son of the late Inez (Marini) Smith. Keith graduated from Colonie High School in 1957 in Albany, NY. He retired from the US Marine Corp as a Decorated Gunnery Sergeant after 21 years of service. After his military career, he managed the Goodway Graphics print shop in Springfield, VA. Keith had a passion for Italian cooking, history, gardening, woodworking and was an awesome story teller. He was a great father and grandfather and was loved by all. He served in the US Marine Corp during the Vietnam War for 13 months. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Virginia M. (Becker) Smith. He is also survived by two daughters, Jacqueline L. and husband John Dixon of Chicago and Colleen and husband Ken Ashlin of Chambersburg; four grandchildren, Brandy Dixon and Troy Dixon, of Loudon County, VA, Aaron Powers and Nina Powers of Chambersburg; three step-grandchildren, Daniel Ashlin and Matthew Ashlin, of Chambersburg, Emily Ashlin of Sacramento, CA and his sister, Dianna Pope of Charlotte, NC. Professional services are being handled by Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 51 Asper Drive, Shippensburg. Funeral Services will be held at 12:30 PM on Thursday, July 10 at the Marine Corp Chapel at Quantico, Virginia. Interment will be in Quantico National Cemetery.
