Kenneth R. Taylor

Kenneth Richard Taylor, age 84 of Biglerville died Wednesday, April 10, 2013 surrounded by family at his home. He was born Saturday, January 12, 1929 in Menallen Township, Adams County, to the late Charles Leonard and Ruth Hoffman Taylor. He married Joycelyn Weaver in 1949. In addition to his wife, Kenny is survived by two sons: Scott W. and wife Donna Taylor, Henry L. and wife Donna Taylor; a daughter, Jacqueline D. and husband David McCartney, Jr.; grandsons: H. Michael Taylor and friend Jennifer, David E. and wife Megan McCartney; granddaughters: Danette L. and husband Keith Grim; Angela and husband Jeremy Frey, Jeanne M. and husband Gary Gage, Jennifer S. and husband Michael Welch; and great-grandchildren: Chapin, Lydan, Allyanna, Hunter, Fisher, Lukas, Hannah, Kaitlyn, Luke, Kyle, Connor, Cameron, Mark Davidand Mallory; and two sisters: Marie and husband David Houck, and Evelyn Price. He was predeceased by brother Rodney Charles Taylor and sister Mildred McBeth; grandson Scott W. Taylor, Jr. and great-grandchildren: twins Isaac and Ruth Grim, Fulton Grim, and August Grim. He attended Wenksville Elementary School and Biglerville High School where he graduated in 1948 receiving the Keystone Farmers award for high achievement in FFA work. He was a lifetime member of St. James Lutheran Church, Wenksville, where he served in various positions through the years. Mr. Taylor was a fruit grower and lumberman. He founded and operated Mt. Valley Farms and Lumber Products, Inc where he manufactured fruit crates, fruit bins, and wooden pallets, as well as rough cut lumber. In 1980, he became a founding father of The Hardwood Lumber Manufacturers of PA, serving as director for many years. The HLMA was the first organization to get legislation approved to help lumberman in PA and later became the PA Forestry Association. Professional services are being handled by Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 South Main Street, Bendersville. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at St. James Lutheran Church, Wenksville with Reverend Robert S. McEllroy III officiating. Interment will be in Greenmount Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, April 16 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Dugan Funeral Home.
