Larry J. Peters, Sr., age 86 of Biglerville, passed away Saturday, January 27, 2024 at Paramount Nursing and Rehab in Fayetteville. He was born Thursday, January 27, 1938 in Hanover, the son of the late G. Harold and Kathryn M. (Palmer) Peters.
Larry graduated from Biglerville High School in 1956. He was formerly employed by Knouse Foods for over 40 years. He graduated from Reisch American School of Auctioneering in 1968. Larry attended classes in real estate law and sales at Penn State in 1971. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Bendersville, where he served on church council. Larry was also a licensed auctioneer for over 50 years. He collected antiques, pedal toys and other collectibles. He was a member of the South Mountain Antique Engine Assoc., Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 1526 in Gettysburg, and Ira E. Lady American Legion Post 262 in Biglerville. Larry was also a life member of the Biglerville Fire Company. He served in the PA National Guard 28th Infantry Division from 1959 to 1964 where he attained the rank of staff sergeant.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary L. (Burgard) Peters. He is also survived by two sons, Larry J. Peters, Jr. and wife Kristi Lynn of Glen Rock, Lorne J. Peters of Gettysburg, sister, Nancy and husband Larry Barbour of Gettysburg, sister’s-in-law Gertrude Peters of Biglerville and Marianne Peters of Vermont and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers George and Robert Peters and sister Shirley Peters.
Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 South Main Street, Bendersville. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, February 1, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 126 Church Street, Bendersville with Reverend Susan Scott officiating. Interment with military honors provided by Ira E. Lady American Legion Post 262 will be conducted in Bendersville Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Dugan Funeral Home.
