Lloyd E. Spertzel, age 87 of Gettysburg, passed away Friday, July 18, 2014 at Transitions Health Care. He was born Wednesday, July 6, 1927 in Adams County, the son of the late George and Blanche (Davis) Spertzel. Lloyd formerly was employed by Dal-Tile for over 40 years. He was a member of Idaville United Brethren in Christ Church. Lloyd was instrumental in the founding and initial operation of the Adams County Rescue Mission and following his retirement, was actively involved in Habitat for Humanity in Gettysburg. He served in the Marine Corps during WWII. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Hope A. (Riley) Spertzel. He is also survived by his son, David C. Spertzel and wife Barbara of Gettysburg, two grandchildren, Alex and Niki, three sisters, Catherine Cole of Gettysburg, Romaine Trimmer of New Chester, Jean Weigle of Gardners and two brothers, Richard Spertzel of Frederick, MD and Luther Spertzel of Wellsville. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ira, Clair (Bill) and Robert Spertzel. Professional services are being handled by Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 South Main Street, Bendersville. Graveside services will be held at the discretion of the family.
