Luz Celenia Vazquez

Luz Celenia Vazquez, age 75, of Gardners, passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at York Hospital in York. She was born on March 31, 1948 in Naranjito, Puerto Rico, as the daughter of the late Modesto Nieves, Sr. and Marcela Nieves-Fuentes.

Luz went to Empire Beauty School and obtained her Cosmetology License. She opened Lucy’s Beauty Shop in Bendersville and primarily styled hair for over 30 years. In her spare time, Luz enjoyed going to BINGO, dancing, music, being a part of a musical family, cooking, crossword puzzles, crocheting blankets and watching her beloved shows, like Jeopardy, Spanish soap operas, Dancing with the Stars and Wicked Tuna.

Luz is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Santos Vazquez of Gardners; three daughters, Santa Monteleone, Rosa Krouse and Marisel Vazquez; two sons, Santos, Jr. and Samuel Vazquez; 21 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren with one on the way and eight siblings, Aurora Garley, Blanca Nieves, Rosa Rivera, Carmen Nieves, Laura Nieves-Newton, Angelo Nieves, Modesto Nieves and Jose Nieves.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Lucy Ann Vazquez who passed January 4, 2019 and two siblings, Rosin Nieves and Marisel Nieves.

Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 South Main St., Bendersville. Memorial Services will be held on Monday, October 9, 2023 at 12:00 PM at Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., Bendersville. A Public Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of services. A Procession will take place following the service to Biglerville Cemetery.
