Lyle "Sammy" (MacKenzie) Kenney, 83, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at Genesis Gettysburg Center. She was born the youngest of seven children in Athol, MA to the late Cecil and Annie (Young) MacKenzie, graduating from Athol High School with the class of 1952. She resided in Gettysburg, PA following her retirement from her former position as the head of the circulation department of the Westfield, NJ Public Library, where she served for 18 years. Sam was an avid reader and loved crossword puzzles, movies and history. Armed with a sharp wit and possessing a wealth of knowledge, she was the family "go to" for answers to any trivia question. She was a fan of the Washington Redskins, the New York Mets, menthol cigarettes and Johnny Walker Red. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She leaves her son, Christopher Kenney of North Plainfield, NJ; her daughter Joann (Kenney) Tipton of Bendersville, four grandchildren, a great-grandchild, nieces and nephews, and her former husband and friend J. Ernest Kenney of Springfield, VA. She was predeceased by her eldest daughter Liane (Kenney) Bauernschmitt, formerly of Apalachin, NY, brothers, Amos and Walter MacKenzie, and sisters, Grace (MacKenzie) Stone, Vivian MacKenzie, Helen (MacKenzie) Larry and Phyllis (MacKenzie) Guignard. Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 South Main Street, Bendersville, PA 17306 is directing arrangements. There are no calling hours.
