Margaret M. Barrett

Margaret “Peggy” M. Barrett, age 89 of Newville, passed away Friday, August 23, 2019 at Green Ridge Village Healthcare Center, Newville. She was born Saturday, December 7, 1929 in Long Island City, NY, the daughter of the late Timothy and Ellen (Murphy) O'Keeffe. Margaret graduated from Boherbue National School in 1943. She was a member of Our Lady of the Visitation Church in Shippensburg. Peggy was a former member of Women’s Republican Club of Lancaster and President Emeritus and Founder of the Children’s Friendship Project for Northern Ireland. Peggy is survived by her son, John P. Barrett of Carlisle, PA, two grandchildren, Kimberly Twoomey (Shawn) and Cathy Barrett, great-grandson, Tyler Twoomey Barrett, sister, Lily McKinley of Newburgh, NY and brother, Denis O'Keeffe of New Windsor, NY. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Timothy O'Keeffe. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Shippensburg. A Public Viewing will take place from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, August 28 at Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 51 Asper Drive, Shippensburg, PA. Mass of Christian Burial Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 29 at Our Lady of the Visitation Church, 305 N. Prince Street, Shippensburg, PA with Father Dwight Schlaline officiating. There will be a viewing one hour prior to the service. Interment will immediately follow the services on Thursday at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, PA. Memorial contributions may be made in Peggy’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
