Margaret Ellen Bowers

Margaret “Margie” Ellen Bowers, age 95, of Shippensburg, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 9, 2022 at The Shook Home in Chambersburg. She was born April 15, 1927 in Shippensburg, PA, as the daughter of the late Morris Hinkle and Hattie Elizabeth (Foltz) McCune.


Margaret graduated in the Class of 1944 from Shippensburg High School. She then went on to graduate in 1946 from Thompson Business School of York. She worked as a medical secretary in Carlisle and at the Shippensburg Medical Clinic and later retired from Letterkenny Army Depot. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Shippensburg for over 80 years, the Good Times Dance Club and the Penn-Mar Dance Club. In her spare time, Margaret enjoyed dancing, golfing and especially reading Danielle Steel novels.


Margaret is survived by her four loving daughters, Barbe Jo Myers and her husband, Greg of Shippensburg, Julle E. Bahr of Chambersburg, Lory B. Naugle and her husband, William of Chambersburg and Jody R. Wagner and her husband, Ned of Hanover; her loving son,

Tod J. Bowers of Shippensburg; eight grandchildren, Kelley Myers (Sherry), Kasey Halter (Chuck), William IV (Janessa), all of Shippensburg, Kylie Wollaston (Andrew) of Lancaster, Brad Bahr, Greg Bahr (Rachel), all of Texas, Jacob and Nicholas Bowers of Shippensburg and ten great-grandchildren, Damian Myers (Brittanie), Paytan Myers, Max Bahr, Brooklyn Bahr, Eva Bahr, Blake and Grayson Mowery, Hadley Halter, Walker Naugle and Rosalie Wollaston.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, whom she married on January 1, 1949, James W. Bowers, who passed in May 2018; son, Gil M. Bowers; son-in-law, David E. Bahr and daughter-in-law, Cathy Bowers.


Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Shippensburg. Private Graveside Services will take place at the convenience of the family in Spring Hill Cemetery.
