Marian M. Smith, age 97, of Shippensburg, formerly of Gettysburg, passed away Saturday, February 3, 2024 at Celebration Villa in Shippensburg,
She was born Monday, February 15, 1926 in Gettysburg, the daughter of the late Carl S. and Kathryne (Nau) Menchey, Sr.
Marian graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1943. She then graduated from Gettysburg College in 1949. She was formerly employed as a secretary for General Dwight D Eisenhower at his office in Gettysburg. She then became secretary for Dr. Heiges at the Lutheran Theological Seminary for several years. She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Gettysburg and The Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 392 in Gettysburg, where she was a past Worthy Matron. She enjoyed reading, knitting and spending time with friends and family.
Her husband, E. Weldon Smith passed away in 1975. Marian is survived by one son, Brent A. and wife Linda Smith of Biglerville, one grandaughter, Melissa L. Smith of Gardners, one grandson, Andrew W. Smith of Gettysburg, and two great-granddaughters, twins, Mackenzie and Rachel Smith of Gardners. She was preceded in death by brother, Carl S. Menchey, Jr. and sister, Phyllis Fissel. She is also survived by a lifelong friend Mary Lou Schwartz.
Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Shippensburg. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, February 8, 2024 in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, 1080 Chambersburg Rd., Gettysburg, with Reverend Fred Young officiating.
