Mark A. Vaughn

May 13, 1965 — January 15, 2021

Mark Alan Vaughn, age 55, of Shippensburg, died on Friday, January 15, 2021 at WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born on May 13, 1965 in Chambersburg to Joyce Vaughn and the late Donald Vaughn. Mark graduated from Arlington High School in 1983 and served in the US Navy from 1985 to 1989. He was a lifelong train enthusiast, an animal lover, and a proud grandfather. He enjoyed watching ducks and other birds at Dykeman Park and appreciating the beautiful Blue Mountain landscape of his home state. Mark attended Ridge Church of the Brethren, and he strove to be Christlike in his love for and acceptance of outcasts, black sheep, and sinners as well as modeling forgiveness and compassion. Having overcome his own youthful struggles with addiction and endured many health issues in the second half of his life, but all the while holding grace for others, we can best remember Mark with the words of Matthew 25:40. “Whatsoever you do to the least of my brethren, you do to me.” He is survived by his mother, Joyce Vaughn; his sisters Debbie Schmalfeldt and Christy Falkosky; his fiancée Cindy Shoap; his daughter Elizabeth Wolf; two grandchildren; five nieces; two nephews; five grand-nephews, and one grand-niece. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 51 Asper Drive, Shippensburg. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 23 at Ridge Church of the Brethren, 1095 Ridge Road, Shippensburg with Pastor Leon Davis officiating. Interment will be in Ridge Church Cemetery. Mark was an outgoing person with a strong sense of humor, and he developed friendships with several of his medical care providers. Please consider donating to Frontline Foods Pittsburgh, an organization that helps take care of the people who took such good care of him, or to the American Kidney Fund, 900 S. Arlington Avenue, Suite 134A, Harrisburg, PA 17109. Those who wish to pour one out in his honor should do so with Mountain Dew (regular flavor or throwback).
