Marvel Sarah Thomas Fair went to the Lord on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at Cross Keys Brethren Home, New Oxford. Marvel was the daughter of the late Francis Uriah Thomas and Sarah Beulah Loretta Fritz. She was born March 20, 1927 into a family of five girls and four boys. Marvel and Harrison, her husband of 70 years, operated a farm for many years near York Springs. Marvel was the original stay-at-home mom, raising three children and working on the farm. As the children entered school, she became the chief telephone operator for the York Springs phone exchange until the installation of the automatic phone dialing system. Later Marvel worked at the Book-of-Month club in Mechanicsburg. The job that she most enjoyed most was as a teacher's aide at Bermudian Springs Elementary. She was a member of AARP and York Springs Senior Citizens, the Sulphur Springs Historical Society and assisted with Girl Scouts in York Springs. Most recently, Marvel occupied her time knitting afghan cover blankets and lap blankets. In addition to her husband, Harrison Fair, Marvel is survived by her sister Grace Anna Smith and husband Glen, son Donald Fair and wife Carole, daughter Marlea Williams and husband Edward, son Jeffrey Fair and wife Janet. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Leslie Rabian and husband David, Gregory Fair and wife Carolyn, Craig Williams, Mark Williams and wife Kristin, Jennifer Wellman and husband Simon, John and wife Jaime; eleven great-grandchildren, Megan Mead and husband Alex, Michael Rabian, Cheyenne Fair, Grayson Fair, Audrea Williams,Simon Wellman III and wife Chelsea, Kaitlyn Wellman, Luke Wellman, Sydney Wellman, Aeowyn Fair, and Cullen Fair and two great-great-grandchildren, Addison Mead and Xavier Wellman. Marvel was preceded in death by brothers: Francis Thomas Jr., Paul Thomas, Clarence Thomas and Jay Thomas, sisters Maybelle Cline, Ruth Mummert and Pearl Warrenfeltz. Dugan Funeral Home, Inc, 111 S. Main Street, Bendersville has been entrusted with arrangements. Funeral service will be held on Sunday, February 21 at 8:00 PM at Dugan Funeral Home with Pastor Lee Hyman officiating. Graveside services will follow on Monday, February 22 at 11:00 AM at Sunnyside Cemetery, York Springs.
