Mary E. Bowers

Mary Ellen "Sis"(Stake) Bowers, age 84 of Shippensburg, passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at Orrstown Personal Care Home. She was born Wednesday, February 1, 1933 in Newville, the daughter of the late Dick E. and Leonora (Farrow) Stake. Sis graduated from Shippensburg High School in 1951. She was head cook at the Episcopal Home for 17 years. In the 1980's, she cooked at the Tollgate Restaurant. She was also a member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Shippensburg. Her husband, Samuel I. Bowers, Jr. passed away June 17, 1998.She is survived by two daughters, Lucinda L. Croutz and Tawnya L. Burkholder, both of Shippensburg, two sons, Bradley E. Bowers of Newburg and Samuel I. Bowers, III of Saint Petersburg, FL, ten grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, one sister, Sylvia B. Henry of Shippensburg, and one brother, Thomas Stake of Manassas, VA. She is also preceded in death by her brother, Charles Stake. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Shippensburg. In accordance to her wishes, services will be held at the discretion of the family.
