Mary, “Kathy”, Wachsmuth, age 79, of Newville, passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at the UPMC Carlisle Hospital. She was born October 6, 1943 in Rapid City, SD, to the late Francis E. and Mary E. (Bibby) Murphy.
She was a member of Our Lady of Visitation Catholic Church in Shippensburg, having been an active member of the Parish Council and former president. Kathy was also an active member of the 4-H and traveled to Turkey as part of the International Farm Youth Program (now known as International Four-H Youth Exchange) and remained an avid supporter of IFYE. She was a long-time member of The Civic Club of Shippensburg, having been president from 1997 – 2000, and was serving as a director and member of the Education Committee. She was also a member of the Cumberland County Historical Society, Shippensburg Garden Club and a volunteer librarian. Kathy also enjoyed taking her Scottish Terrier, “Angus”, for long walks.
Kathy is survived by her son, Paul W. Wachsmuth and his wife, Glenda of Waldorf, MD; two grandsons, Logan and Liam Wachsmuth; three sisters, Mikkey Twitero of South Dakota; Peg Murphy of Minnesota and Helen Murphy of Tennessee; along with one niece and several nephews. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 52 years, Lt. Col., USAF (retired) Carl W. Wachsmuth, who died July 9, 2020 and brother, John Murphy.
Professional services have been entrusted to the Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Shippensburg. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Our Lady of the Visitation Catholic Church, 305 N. Prince Street, Shippensburg, PA 17257, with Rev. Fr. Ben Dunkelberger as Celebrant. Burial will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, PA, next to her husband. Memorial Contributions may be made in memory of Kathy to the V- Foundation, 14600 Weston PKWY, Cary, NC 27513.
