Mildred T. McBeth passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2011, one week prior to her 90th birthday. She was born Saturday, June 18, 1921, the daughter of the late Charles and Ruth (Hoffman) Taylor in Biglerville, PA. She was the widow of Orville G. McBeth, who died on February 7, 1983. They owned and operated a turkey and fruit farm in Wenksville for many years. Surviving Mildred are her daughter, Bettina and son, Orville, Jr., husband of Arla; and three grandsons: Winsor, Jordan and Charles McBeth. Also surviving her are sisters, Marie Houck and husband David, Arendtsville, Evelyn Price, Columbia, SC and a brother, Kenneth Taylor and wife Joycelyn , Biglerville. A sister-in-law, Mary Jane Wenk, a brother-in-law, Robert MacBeth, and several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her husband, a brother, Rodney Taylor and a daughter, Linda Mildred predeceased her. Mildred was a well-known local artist and painter who was chairman of the art department at the South Mountain Fair for 25 years. She exhibited in local shows as well as The Washington County Museum of Art, MD. She was among the last living members of The Arts and Crafts Guild of Adams County, the forerunner of The Arts Council. Besides painting, Mildred was also known for her cooking and baking abilities, her lover of her grandsons, as well as of church and of flowers. She loved to travel, especially with her family. She was church organist at St. James, Wenksville for many years. She served on the church council and was a member of Welca. Along with her husband, Mildred was a member of the Advisory Council of Adams County, and agricultural committee. In addition, she served as secretary of the Wenksville Cemetery Association for many years. She was a 1939 graduate of Arendtsville Vocational High School and a graduate of Thompson Business Institute, York. She started her career as a teller of Arendtsville Bank, which continued until her children were born. She also was a member of The Apple Blossom Committee in its early years. Her family will deeply miss her in so many ways - her special birthday cakes, her rising to meet every occasion with determination and humor, and her smile and wit. We will miss most her support of her family as only a mother can give. The family wishes to extend its gratitude to Brittany Trostle for exceptional and outstanding care given to our dear mother during her decline the last few months. Professional services have been entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home, Inc. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 15 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Bendersville with Reverend Robert S. McEllroy, III officiating.A viewing will be held on Tuesday, June 14th from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Dugan Funeral Home and Wednesday at the church from 10:00 AM until services. Interment will be in Wenksville Cemetery.
