Nellie G. Harbold, age 101 of East Berlin, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at SpiriTrust Home in Gettysburg. She was born Saturday, May 18, 1918 in Orrtanna, the daughter of the late John Russell and Sarah V. (Daugherty) Gardner. Nellie graduated from York Springs High School in 1935. She earned her teaching certificate from Elizabethtown College in 1937. She earned her B.S. in Elementary Education in 1944 from Shippensburg State College. She earned her Masters of Education in Guidance and Counseling in 1966 from Shippensburg State College. She taught in Lancaster County Schools for two years. She then came to Adams County and taught in York Springs and Bermudian Springs School District through 1969. She then taught in Gettysburg Area School District from 1969 to 1979 until her retirement. She was a member of Chestnut Grove Lutheran Church, American Association of University Women, Omega Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, PA Association of School Retirees, a Charter member of the Mademoiselle Club of York Springs and a member of York Springs Senior Citizens. Her husband, Ervin L. Harbold passed in 1958. She is survived by two daughters, Margaret H. Harbold of East Berlin, Susan H. and husband Gus Fahnestock of Lexington, MA, three sons, Stephen G. Harbold of Dillsburg, Thomas A. and wife Dottie Harbold of East Berlin, Randy S. and wife Sue Harbold of Lancaster, two step-daughters, Joan and husband Clair Trostle of New Oxford, Esther Sanders of Biglerville, one step-son, Donald and wife Pat Harbold of Mechanicsburg, step-daughter-in-law, Vonnie Harbold of New Oxford, 20 grandchildren, several great and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Charlotte H. Harbold and three step-children, Walter G. Harbold, Jean E. King and Jay Robert Harbold. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 South Main Street, Bendersville. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, June 8 at Chestnut Grove Lutheran Church, 1136 Mountain Road, York Springs with Deacon Nancy Gable officiating. Interment will be in Sunnyside Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Gardner’s Church, c/o Linda Williams, 1038 Hastings Boulevard, York, PA 17402 or Memorial Honor Fund PASR, 878 Century Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055 or the charity of one's choice.
