It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Nellie R. (Kane) Heller, 87, of Aspers on February 11th, 2024. She passed peacefully at her home with her loving family. Nellie was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 30 years, Ivan “Wayne” Heller in 1990.
Born January 11, 1937 in Beecherstown, Adams County, she was the daughter of the late Albert C. and Florence M. (Spidel) Kane. After graduating from Biglerville High School in 1957, Nellie married and set out on great adventures with her husband Wayne, who was a proud member of the US Navy. Nellie worked on Naval bases in Groton, CT., Norfolk, VA., and the Naval Supply Base in Mechanicsburg, where she received a commendation in honor of her outstanding contribution to Navy efficiency. Nellie was later employed and would retire from Gettysburg College where she worked in Musselman Library. After her retirement she would not remain idle and began working at the Cross Keys Brethren Home where she retired for the second time in her life.
Nellie truly adored and cherished her family. She had an abundance of love and kindness which she shared openly. Nellie’s love was unconditional and her nature was quiet and reserved. She enjoyed the simple things that life had to offer. As a devout Catholic she was a parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Church, Gettysburg. She will always be remembered with warm thoughts and love.
Nellie is survived by her only child, whom she loved beyond measure, Florence (Heller) Heuer and son in law Lee A. Heuer, Jr. of Aspers; grandson, Andrew Heuer and wife Carissa of New Oxford; granddaughter, Emilee Heuer and partner Jonathan Houston of Hanover; great-granddaughters, Niveya and Penelope Heuer of New Oxford; sisters, Shirley (Keith) MacKenzie, and Ellen Doll; brother, Michael (Pat) Kane and sister-in-law, Esther Kane. Nellie also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and in laws, who were all dear to her heart. Nellie was preceded in death by her siblings Albert Kane, John Kane, Mary Grace Williams, Delores Cooper, Vivian Walter, Elizabeth Garner, James Kane, Florence Baker, and Rosalie Kane.
