Norman G. Blocher

Norman G. Blocher, age 93 of Aspers, passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at Transitions Health Care in Gettysburg. He was born Friday, May 20, 1921 in Bendersville, the son of the late Earl D. and Marie A. (Hinkle) Blocher. Norman graduated from Biglerville High School in 1940. Norm was a lifelong farmer, retiring in 1989 and a school bus owner-contractor for forty years for the Upper Adams School District, retiring in 1993. He was a member of the Upper Adams Young Farmer Program, sharing official duties and a member of Adams Co. Farm Bureau for which he served three years as President of the Board, earning "All State" Awards in his second year of presidency. Norm volunteered nine years on the board of directors for Adams Co. Extension Assn., serving in all offices, including as president. He served 19 years as a member of the board of directors for the York Farm Credit Association and held all offices on the board. Norm was a lifelong and active member of the Bendersville United Methodist Church. He served on the board of trustees for many years and sang in the choir. He was a Life Member of the Bendersville Community Fire Company. He volunteered for Upper Adams Meals on Wheels, where he was an officer and coordinator, the Biglerville Historical Society and Apple Museum, where he was a life member and tour guide for the museum. His first wife, Rhea A. (Culp) Blocher passed in 2004 and his second wife, Thelma Weaver Blocher passed in 2011. Two sons survive him, Ronald E. and wife Darlene Blocher and Glenn E. and wife Jane Blocher, all of Gettysburg, seven grandchildren, two step-granddaughters, ten great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and a sister, Betty Blocher Bream of Gettysburg. His daughter, Brenda J. Giberson who passed in 1988 and two brothers, Grayson and Ralph, preceded him in death. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home, Inc. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 12, at Bendersville United Methodist Church, 131 N. Main Street, Bendersville with Reverend Rick Robinson officiating. Interment will be in Bendersville Cemetery. A viewing will be held Monday, August 11 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Dugan Funeral Home, 111 S. Main Street, Bendersville. Memorial contributions may be made to Bendersville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 301, Bendersville, PA 17306 or Bendersville Community Fire Company, P.O. Box 254, Bendersville, PA 17306.
