Patty Sue O’Connor, age 82, of Chambersburg, passed away July 17, 2022 at ProMedica Skilled Nursing in Chambersburg. She was born March 4, 1940 in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Walter Jacob and Emma Lowesa (Plyler) Zimmerman. Patty graduated from Punxsutawney High School, Class of 1958 and Western Pennsylvania Hospital School of Nursing in 1961. She was a member of West Penn Nursing Alumni, Falling Spring Presbyterian Church, and PEO. Patty enjoyed knitting, counted cross-stitch, sewing, reading and spending time with her grandchildren. She had one of the best jobs ever, working at Coyle Library in the Children’s Library often reading stories to children. While in Frederick, MD Patty and Jim volunteered with a Kids-at-Risk program to feed children and help them with their reading skills. She is survived by the love of her life, her husband of 59 years, James Philip O’Connor, daughters, Jennifer Lyn O’Connor and husband, Adam Qualter of Ontario, Canada and Megan Kathleen and husband, John Grugan of Philadelphia, grandchildren; Kevin and Jonathan Qualter and Ethan, Emma, Liam and Maggie Grugan and brothers, Walter Zimmerman and partner, Pam Ferguson of State College, Eric Zimmerman and wife, Kendra Dane of Chicago, IL and Jack Zimmerman of Port Matilda, PA. Patty is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, William “Bill” Zimmerman, and niece Sara Zimmerman. Professional services have been entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 51 Asper Drive, Shippensburg. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 3 at Presbyterian Church of Falling Spring, 221 N. Main Street, Chambersburg. Pastor William DeHaas will be officiating. Inurnment will take place at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
