Philip “Skip” D. McClain, age 75 of Fort Loudon, passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2019 in Chambersburg. He was born November 9, 1943 in Allenport, PA, the son of the late Philip Louis McClain and Erma Isabelle (Snyder) McClain. Philip graduated from Captain Jack Mt. Union High School in 1961. “Skip” served as an engineer for 3 years in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. After his retirement, “Skip” worked for Hoffman Mills as an electrical engineer for 9 years. In 1994, he retired from his career of over 30 years with Letterkenny Army Depot. He was a member of American Legion in Mercersburg. “Skip” was known to his family as a very intelligent man who could pick up new skills easily. He is survived by his loving wife, Anna (Foreman) Tarner of Fort Loudon, two daughters, Crystal Bachman (John) of Chambersburg and Teresa Benner (Tom) of Shippensburg, two step-daughters, Pamela Thomas (Gary) of Newport News, VA and Leslie Zimmerman (Tim) of Chambersburg, sister, Colleen Rae Duld of Fredericksburg, VA, five grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his former wife, who passed in April 2007, Glenda Jane (Kline) McClain and his brother, Gerald McClain. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Shippensburg. Memorial Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, January 29 at Haven Rest Memorial Park, 15595 Croghan Pike, Shirleysburg, PA 17260, with military honors and Pastor Joel Nogle officiating. All are welcome to attend. Memorial contributions may be made online in “Skip’s” name to the American Cancer Society.
