Preston James Moe, age 93 of Chambersburg, departed this life on Tuesday, March 7, 2017. He was born January 26, 1924 in Echo, MN to Anna Martha Moe, a Norwegian immigrant. He later moved to Granite Falls, MN and graduated from Granite Falls High School in 1942. Drafted into the US Army in 1944, he was on a troop ship bound for the invasion of Japan when the atomic bombs were detonated. After a month at sea, he was stationed in the Philippines for the remainder of his tour of duty. After his discharge, Preston attended the University of Minnesota with the aid of the GI Bill. He graduated in 1950 with a bachelor's degree in economics and, his passion, political science. After relocation to Washington, DC he worked as an economist at the Bureau of Public Roads (later the Federal Highway Administration) during the building of the Interstate Highway System. He moved with his family to Chambersburg in September of 1971. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Helen Louise (Biesecker) Moe, and his son, James Moe, of Los Angeles, CA. "Pres" was always much aware of people who had genuine needs, and lived his life with that in mind. He loved gardening, especially growing tomatoes. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Chambersburg. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Shippensburg. A service for the celebration of his life will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 431 Philadelphia Avenue, on Saturday, March 18 at 11:00 AM. Family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the South-Central Community Action (SCCAP) Homeless Shelter, 223 South Main Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
