R. Gordon Harglerode

R. Gordon Harglerode, age 87 of Shippensburg, passed away on Friday, July 7, 2017 at Brookview Health Care Center at Menno Haven in Chambersburg. He was born Tuesday, September 24, 1929 in Shippensburg, the son of the late R. Gordon and Mary Ellen (Barnhart) Harglerode. Gordie came to the Lord last year and was recently baptized at Brookview Health Care Center at Menno Haven by Pastor Matt Tosten of the Greenvillage Church of God. Gordie loved people and enjoyed talking to everyone he met. After a few minutes with him, anyone would consider him a friend. Gordon attended Shippensburg High School class of 1947. He was a mason at General James Chambers Lodge 0801. He was a former member of the Shippensburg Jaycees and Lions clubs and served as president of the Jaycees during the early 1960's. He was a founding member of the Bicentennial CB club. He served as park watch at the Gettysburg National Battlefield. He enjoyed ghost hunting and led guided tours of the Gettysburg Battlefield with the Spirit Watchers. Gordie loved automobiles. He was a car salesman in the Central Pennsylvania area and even opened up his own business Sun Village Auto Sales. He was the first moped dealer in the Shippensburg area and for a brief period of time, he owned Sun Cabs Taxi Service. He is survived by his children, Michael Harglerode, Dawn Chamberlin and Gary Harglerode all of Shippensburg, grandchildren, Kaila Snopko and Lauren Harglerode. He is also survived by his brothers, Richard E. Harglerode and William Harglerode, sister, Bonnie Bollinger-Plank, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, June Nelson and brother, Thomas Harglerode. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Shippensburg. Memorial services will be held on Friday, July 14 at 7:00 PM at Greenvillage Church of God, 5164 Philadelphia Avenue, Chambersburg with Pastor Matt Tosten officiating. A visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Brookview Health Care Center at Menno Haven Benevolent Fund, 2011 Scotland Avenue, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
