Ralph C. Starner

Ralph C. Starner, age 90, of Gardners, died Friday, February 19, 2010, at Gettysburg Hospital. He was born May 6, 1919 in Menallen Township, Adams County, one of eleven children of the late Charles C. and Rosie (Starner) Starner. He was employed by Conrail for 40 years before retiring in June of 1980. He was a charter member of the Upper Adams Fish Game, a member of Good Samaritan Masonic Lodge 336 of Gettysburg, American Legion Ira E. Lady Post 262 in Biglerville for 52 years, Buchanan Valley Fish Game and Mt. Holly Fish Game. He was a charter member of the Reeseville Hunting Camp in Sylvania Twp., Potter Co. Ralph served in the U.S. Army under General George Patton in France during World War II. He was wounded and received the Purple Heart while in France in 1944. He also received the Bronze Star and Silver Star. He is survived by his wife, Gladys (Wolford) Starner to whom he was married for 68 years; a son, Fred A. Starner of Grantville, one granddaughter Laura Berry of York, two great grandchildren Amanda and David Edwards of York, one great great grandson, Chandon L. Edwards, two sisters: Marion Black of Biglerville and Bertha Murtoff of Carlisle. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Toni Lynn Edwards. Professional servicesare being handled by Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 South Main Street, Bendersville, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, February 24. Funeral service will be at Dugan Funeral Home, Inc. at 11:00 AM, Thursday, February 25 with the Reverend Kenneth G. Swick officiating. Interment will bein Idaville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Post Ira E. Lady 262, 'Ralph Starner Fund', P.O. Box 215, Biglerville, Pa. 17307.
