Ralph E. Mentzer, age 85 of York, passed away December 10, 2023 at home. He was born July 31, 1938 in Adams County, to the late Melvin F. and Florence M. (Lobaugh) Mentzer.
He attended Emmanuel Baptist Church in Elizabethtown and was a retired minister from Oswego Community Baptist Church. Ralph was saved at 24 years of age. He was a youth group leader, Christian Home League minister, a deacon, and was ordained into ministry in 1977. He ministered at East Berlin, Columbia and Marysville. He was a faithful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Ralph also coached Little League and was one of the original founders of the Biglerville Wrestling Club. Ralph was a member of the very first wrestling team at Biglerville High School and was the first to advance to the Pennsylvania State Championship Tournament.
Ralph is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jannie-Lee (Chronister) Mentzer of York; children, Vicki R. Mentzer of Hanover, Connie F. Sterner and husband, David of York, Judy K. Pitzer and husband, Gregg of Biglerville, Stanley J. Mentzer of York, Patti M. May of Biglerville and Jeffrey S. Mentzer and wife, Sharon of Ostrander, OH; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and brothers, Melvin F. Mentzer, Jr. of Gardners and Richard Mentzer of Harrisburg. He was preceded in death by his brother David C. Mentzer and sisters, Shirley A. Kuhn and Clara E. Shriver.
Professional services have been entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 S. Main Street, Bendersville, where a viewing will be held on Sunday, December 17, 2023 from 6:00PM to 9:00PM. A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 18, 2023 at 1:00PM at Memorial Baptist Church, 1096 Biglerville Road Gettysburg, PA 17325. A viewing will be held from 12:00PM until time of funeral service. Pastors Steve Baker and Garrett Rain will officiate the service. Ralph will be laid to rest at Biglerville Cemetery.
