Ray M. Flickinger

Ray M. Flickinger, age 94 of Arendtsville, died Sunday, May 3, 2015 at Gettysburg Hospital. He was born Wednesday, April 6, 1921 in Arendtsville, the son of the late Peter D. and Minnie (Powell) Flickinger. He served in the US Army as a Staff Sergeant during World War II. He was involved in the landing at Anzio Beach Head in Italy. He received a silver star, was awarded two Purple Hearts, a WWII Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and the European African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with Bronze Service Star. Ray was employed as an inspector at Letterkenny Army Depot for 28 years. After that he worked for 17 � years at Upper Adams School District as a bus driver, custodian and supervising summer painting crews. He was a lifetime member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church where he served on Church Council and a lifetime member of Arendtsville Fire Company, where he had served as president. He was also a member of Adams County Fire Police and the Square and Compass Club at Letterkenny. For 50 years, he was a member of the Good Samaritan Masonic Lodge, Harrisburg Consistory, Zembo Shrine and Central PA Club. For many years, he served both on the board and as caretaker for Greenmount Cemetery. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Violet R. (Lackner) Flickinger. He was preceded in death by his sister, Marion Lee and brothers, Ira and Earl Flickinger. Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 South Main Street, Bendersville has been entrusted with professional services. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 8 atTrinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Arendtsville with Reverend Ben Siebert officiating and a viewing one-hour before. Good Samaritan Lodge 336 of Gettysburg will provide Masonic Services at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in Greenmount Cemetery with Military Services offered by Adams County Allied Veterans. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 38 N. High Street, PO Box 309, Arendtsville, PA 17303.
