Richard Lamont Kane, born Tuesday, July 8, 1941 in Gettysburg, diedOctober 30, 2012 in Tucson, Arizona of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. He is survived by his loving wife Beth and son Brian Kane, both of Tucson; his brother Charles (Joan) Kane, Hanover; sisters Carol (Howard, Jr.) Miller, Gettysburg, Vicki Short, Gettysburg, Laura Ann Kane, Biglerville, Sandy (Ed) Koller, Wrightsville and Debbie Kane, Aspers and their families; and in-laws, Jackie Bill Cobbledick and brothers-in-law Keith and Dan, all of Tucson; his granddaughter Jordan Kane, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Leeanna Kane and sisters Barbara Kane and Darlene Kessel. Richard served in the U.S. Air Force and worked in the Titan Missile program. The Air Force brought him to Tucson, where he fell in love with the mountains and the great opportunities for outdoor recreation. Richard was a guide in the Southern Arizona Hiking Club for many years, which is where he met Beth, and the two camped out countless nights in the wilderness. For years he served the SAHC as the Trailkeeper in charge of trail maintenance, and led others to reblaze lost trails in the mountains. He also led people on fun trips to remote beaches on the Sea of Cortez, where we boated withour Zodiac and did scuba. In later years, he also became very involved with the Arizona Trail as a trail steward and hiker. He hiked about 400 miles of the 800 mile AZT. Richard was a business broker for 35 years and ran Kane Business Brokers. He was a hunter and a horseman and bred and trained Rhodesian ridgeback dogs. All are invited to a viewing at Dugan Funeral Home, 111 Street Main Street, Bendersville on Monday, November 5 from 7:00 - 9:00 PM, and a Celebration of Life on Tuesday, November 6, at 10:00 AM at St. Ignatius Parish, 1095 Church Road, Orrtanna, with viewing at 9:00 AM in the social hall.
