Richard Melvin Miller

October 4, 1931 — June 23, 2025

Richard “Rich” Melvin Miller, age 93, of Gardners, passed away on Monday, June 23, 2025, surrounded by his family at his home. He was born October 4, 1931 in Highspire, PA, as the son of the late Alton Cletus Miller, Sr. and Romaine Minnie (Arnold) Miller.


Richard graduated in the Class of 1949 from York Springs High School. He served four years with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War while stationed at Sampson Air Force Base in New York and Tripoli, North Africa from 1952 to 1956. He was employed with Adams County National Bank from 1949 until his retirement in 1996, with 45 years’ service, as Senior Vice President of the York Springs office.


He was a member of Chapel Hill Church of God in York Springs and attended Grace Bible Chapel in Gardners. He was also a member of VFW and American Legion in Biglerville, AARP and a lifetime member of York Springs Fire Company. In his spare time, Richard enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, riding horseback and motorcycles with his siblings, but most of all, spending time at family events.


Richard is survived by his loving daughter, Jeannine Slaybaugh and her husband, Gary of Gardners; two grandchildren, Stephanie Cramer and her husband, Brian and Michael Slaybaugh and his wife, Sarah; four great-grandchildren, Miriam and Abigail Cramer and Arya and Everly Slaybaugh; four brothers, David, Kenneth, Donald and Barry Miller; two sisters, Margaret Shaffer and Evelyn Criswell and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years who passed September 2017, Hilda Katherine (Griest) Miller; four brothers, George, Edward, Alton, Jr., and Earl and three sisters, Alma Bistline, Thelma Staub and Doris Sampsel.


Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 South Main St., Bendersville. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 27, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Grace Bible Chapel, 5575 Oxford Rd, Gardners, PA 17324, with Pastor James Depue officiating. A Public Viewing will take place from 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM at the church. A Procession will follow to Sunnyside Cemetery where military honors provided by Adams County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.


In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Richard’s honor to Grace Bible Chapel, 5575 Oxford Rd, Gardners, PA 17324. Friends may express online condolences at www.DuganFH.com.
