Richard O. Carey

Richard O. Carey, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, age70, of Aspers went to be with the Lord Friday, February 18, 2011 at his home. He was born Friday, September 27, 1940 in Tyrone Township, Adams County, the son of the late Wharton Z. and Helen (Sterner) Carey. Richard graduated from Biglerville High School in the Class of 1958. He was employed by C.H. Musselman for 26 years as a farm manager and Knouse Foods as a supervisor/ raw fruit coordinator for 22 years. He was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years. He was also a member of Shoshonean Gun Club, Moose of Gettysburg, American Legion Post 262 and C A Hunting camp in Sinnamahoning. He served in the Army National Guard from 1960 to 1966. He is survived by his wife Emma S. (Keller) Carey to whom he was married for 48 years. He is also survived by daughters Lisa H. Showers, and husband Paul R. of Aspers, Wanda S.Hughes and husband Tony of Arendtsville, his son, Travis R. Carey and wife Brenda of Spartansburg, nine grandchildren: Kari, Betsy, and Eric Showers, Emily and Mary Rex, Miles Hughes, Eli, Nolan, and Ellie Carey; two great grandchildren: Daniel and Tearnie; and sisters Joyce Kapp and Jane Eckerd, both of Mechanicsburg. He was preceded in death by brothers Kenneth and William Carey and grandson Edward J. Carey. Professional services are being handled by Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 South Main Street, Bendersville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM onWednesday, February 23, at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church, 1095 Church Rd., Orrtanna with the Reverend Kenneth G. Smith officiating. Interment will be in St. Ignatius Catholic Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Tuesday February 22 at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Serving as pallbearers will be Doug Carey, Mervin D'Souza, Earl Taylor, Scott Keller, Paul Heller and Eric Showers. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
