Richard W. Tosten

August 2, 1938 — March 3, 2024

Richard William Tosten, 85, of Gardners, PA, passed away peacefully at Gettysburg Hospital on March 3, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Richard was born on August 2, 1938, in Hampton, PA. He was the son of the late Clemson W. Tosten and Iva I. (Slusser) Tosten. He was a graduate of East Berlin High School.


Richard is survived by his loving wife, Doris J. (Bream) Tosten; his daughter, Pamela L. (Tosten) Seay, sons Douglas L. Tosten and wife, Judy; and Randall L. Tosten and wife, Suzette; grandchildren, Tyler Wagner, Amy Tosten, Tianna (Tosten) Lillington and husband, Josh and Derek Tosten and partner Madelynn Shindledecker and two great-grandchildren Kinsley Lillington and Lillian Shindledecker. He is also survived by nieces and nephews. Richard was predeceased by his parents, his first grandson, Tristan Tosten; sister, Helen (Tosten) Altland; son-in-law, Kenton Seay and his favorite furry buddy, Bella.


After high school, Richard worked at Rea & Derrick Drug Stores and Peoples Drug Stores as a Manager. He then worked for and retired from Frito-Lay after 25 years. After retiring, he worked a Sawmill and did a lot of woodworking, including making furniture and crafts. It was his passion to provide for others and spread the word of GOD. He was a lifetime member of the York Springs Fire Company and was an active member of Hanover Community Church. When his kids were younger, he coached Little League baseball and was an active member of the Bermudian Springs Booster Club. He loved to be out in his workshop creating new woodworking projects.


Richard will be fondly remembered as grandpa. He doted on all his grandchildren, and they enjoyed spending time with him and will truly miss him. Many memories were made.


Professional services have been entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 S. Main Street, Bendersville. At Richard’s request, there will be no viewing. Friends are invited to a graveside funeral service on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 2:00PM at Upper Bermudian Lutheran Church Cemetery, 185 Ground Oak Church Road, Gardners, PA 17324.
