Robert E. Faust

June 10, 1922 — March 24, 2018

Robert E. Faust, age 95 of Chambersburg, passed away Saturday, March 24, 2018 at his home. He was born Saturday, June 10, 1922 in Greencastle, the son of the late Arnold R. and Estella (Angle) Faust. He was born into a farming family and was used to hard work from an early age. Robert graduated from Greencastle High School in 1940 and was offered a full football scholarship to Penn State where he was going to study to be a veterinarian, but he was offered a job at Fairchild Hiller in Hagerstown to support the war effort and worked there for 44 years until his retirement. He was a member of the Chambersburg Church of the Brethren, where he served as head usher for many years and helped to establish Operation Concern in the early 70’s as an outreach to those who needed help furnishing an apartment or getting on their feet. He served in the US Navy during World War II as a paramedic on board a ship. He was humble about his accomplishments and was a devoted family man who helped others but didn’t talk about it. Robert loved gardening and had beautiful fragrant rosebushes. He also loved remodeling houses and made no profit on many that he sold to first-time buyers. He loved men’s quartet music, particularly gospel and had a beautiful baritone voice. He loved nature and knew so many things that people today have lost in the shuffle. Traveling and taking pictures to share with his family was a joy to him. He knew how to make you feel special, and for that, we will all surely miss him. His wife, Phyllis I. (Rice) Faust passed away in 1998, but they are now dancing together in heaven. He is survived by two daughters, Debra L. and husband Jere Stouffer of Fayetteville, Robin R. and husband Randy Hockenberry of Chambersburg, six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, sister, Geneveive McNew and a brother, Dean Faust of Chambersburg. He was preceded in death by four siblings, Kenneth Faust, Miriam Keckler, Carl Faust and Vera Angle. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Shippensburg. A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, March 29 at Chambersburg Church of the Brethren, 260 S. Fourth Street, Chambersburg with Reverend Joel Nogle officiating. Private Interment will be in Norland Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 2:00 PM until time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Chambersburg Church of the Brethren, 260 S. Fourth Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
