Robert “Bob” F. McKee, age 87, of Gettysburg, passed away on Monday, December 11, 2023 surrounded by his family at his home in East Berlin. He was born July 27, 1936 in Hunterstown, PA, as the son of the late Hubert G. and Violet M. (Reese) McKee.
Robert graduated in the Class of 1954 from Milton Hershey High School. He went on to serve in the U.S. Army. He retired in 1998, as Superintendent from York Casket Company after working there for over 25 years. He was a member of Gettysburg Foursquare Gospel Church and was on the Church Council and taught Sunday school class. He was also a member of Trout Unlimited and Adams County Fish and Game. In his spare time, Robert enjoyed being active with his church community and above all, was known as a master fisher, going to the local streams, as well as, fishing in Canada and Alaska. Robert’s life’s work was furniture re-finishing, but he also was a fan of the Redskins and the Washington Nationals. Robert loved watching his grandkids and great-grandkids and playing sports with them. His family remembers him best for his love of the Lord and his love of people. One of his greatest joys was reaching out and being involved in others’ lives, whether it be mentoring or praying for them. He will be missed by all.
Robert is survived by his daughter, Diana Jenkins and her husband, Charles of Cary, NC; son, Robert F. McKee, II and his wife, Lorie of East Berlin; two sisters, Mary Alice Springer of Emmittsburg, MD and Mary Anne Vaughn of Winchester, VA; five grandchildren, Kristin McKee (Michael) Hershey, Robert F. (Lindsay) McKee III, and Kimberly McKee (Bradley) Reighard, Lindsey Jenkins, and Steven (Andrea) Jenkins; eight great-grandchildren, Lucy, Sophie, Charlotte, Hazel, Harper, Cameron, Mason and Michael, II and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, S. Jean (Thomas) McKee, who passed June 24, 2022.
Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 South Main St., Bendersville. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, December 18, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Gettysburg Foursquare Church, 328 W Middle St, Gettysburg, PA 17325, with Pastor Mark Chester officiating. A Public Viewing will take place from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at the church prior to services.
Interment for both Robert and S. Jean will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Gettysburg.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Robert’s memory to Gettysburg Foursquare Church, designated for Missions to Bolivia, 328 W. Middle Street, Gettysburg, PA 17325.
