Robert W. Strine

Robert W. Strine, age 92 of Gettysburg, formerly Aspers, entered the gates of Heaven peacefully, surrounded by his daughters on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at his home. He was born Monday, January 21, 1924 in Lebanon, the son of the late Chester L. and Helen R. (Leese) Strine. Robert earned an Accounting degree from Central Penn Business School. He had worked at Hershey Foods until his marriage. He had also worked at Levey and Gross Furniture Store in Harrisburg, Knouse Foods Inc. and Norman Lady Chemical supply. He retired from the state as an accountant for PA Dept. of Revenue. Bob was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ. He was a Sunday school teacher at his church, a 4-H leader for close to 20 years, member of the Adams County Fish and Game, played on the church softball team and a faithful supporter of the Biglerville Canners. He loved to play golf, fish and hunt. He killed his last deer in 2015 in archery season at the age of 91. He loved to tell people his stories about his adventures. He served in the Army during WWII, where he was awarded the Silver Star. He was a member of Ira E. Lady American Legion Post 262 in Biglerville, where he served as Adjutant for the post, was involved with the honor guard, gave out the American Legion Elementary and High School Awards, and helped coach the baseball team. He helped place American Flags at the grave sites for veterans in Adams Co. He was a member of the Forty and Eight, was Grand Cheminat at one time and helped sell Christmas trees for the Forty and Eight Club in Gettysburg. His wife, Mary (Mimi) (Deatrick) Strine passed away April 18, 2009. He is survived by daughters, LeAnne (husband David) Boldosser, Jr., Aspers, Y. Elaine (husband Rodger) Kuykendall, Gettysburg, six grandchildren: Vickie (husband William) Noel, Alan (wife Tina) Kuykendall, Shelly Dosch (companion Jason), Travis (wife Stephanie), Dru Boldosser and Eli Boldosser, five great-grandchildren, LaChelle Laughman, Olivia and Mckenzie Dosch, Ayden Kuykendall, Autumn Boldosser and a brother, Ronald G. Strine of Lebanon. He was preceded in death by his great-grandson Cody Laughman and brothers Chester L. and Donald E. Strine. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 South Main Street, Bendersville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, August 22 at Trinity United Church of Christ, 300 E. York Street, Biglerville with Reverend Linda Summers officiating. Interment will be in Bendersville Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Monday at the church from 10:00 AM until time of services.
