Roland "Sonny" T. Hurley, age 89 of Carlisle, passed away Friday, December 11, 2015 at his home. He was born Tuesday, October 5, 1926 in Monroe, MI, the son of the late Willis K. and Odelia (Scheich) Hurley. Roland was employed in construction and as a lift operator for Kearns Lumber Company for 20 years. He had also worked at Carlisle Barracks and was part-owner of businesses including The Holly Inn and Hurley's Atlantic in Newville. Along with his brother, he also hauled milk, coal and various fruits. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Carlisle and had served in the U.S. Navy during WWII on the destroyer escort, USS Key. He is survived by two daughters, Brenda Hurley Pisano of Mechanicsburg, Cheryl L. Young, Carlisle, three grandchildren, Ronald, Kristen and Holly and four great-grandchildren. His wife of 69 years, Helen (Minnich) Hurley, preceded him in death in July 2015. His sister, Edith Marpoe and two brothers, Frederick and Willis Hurley also preceded him in death. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Shippensburg. Private Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, December 16 at Newville Cemetery with Very Reverend William C. Forrey officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
