Roland W. Kime

Roland W. Kime, age 93 formerly of Gettysburg, passed away Monday, July 18, 2016 at Forest Park Nursing Home in Carlisle. He was born Sunday, January 28, 1923 in Bendersville, the son of the late Harvey E. and Mary E. (Webb) Kime. Roland graduated from Biglerville High School in 1941. He graduated from Gettysburg College in 1947 as an English major. He was formerly employed by PA Dept of Welfare in the Adams County Public Assistance Office for 30 years. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Gettysburg, where he sang in the choir, served on church council, served on the social services committee and performed other volunteer services. He was Cub Master of Pack 79, sponsored by the St. James Lutheran Church for 20 years. He was an active volunteer for the Adams County Office of the Aging, member of the Cannanders Square Dance Club of Gettysburg, Flirts and Skirts Square Dance Club of Mechanicsburg and Dance-A-Round Club of Mechanicsburg. He was also a member of the Gettysburg Exchange Club. Roland served as a Sergeant in the US Army Air Corp from Jan. 1943 to Jan. 1946 during World War II. He was a control tower operator in the South Pacific Theater of Operations. His wife Kathryn E. (Bucher) Kime passed away in 2012. He is survived by two daughters, Beverly A. and husband Scott Levis of Hatboro, PA Sandra E. Fitzgerald of Frederick, MD, a son, Bradley A. and wife Sarah Kime of Camp Hill, five grandchildren, Jenn, Ben, Amanda, Jeff, and Becca and one great-grandson, Hayden. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Delmar, Robert and Marvin, and one sister Julia Kime. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 South Main Street, Bendersville. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, July 22, at St. James Lutheran Church, 109 York Street, Gettysburg with Reverend Michael Allwein officiating. Private interment will be in Bendersville Cemetery. A viewing will be held at Dugan Funeral Home, 111 S. Main Street, Bendersville on Thursday, July 21 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and at the church on Friday from 1:00 PM until time of services. Memorial contributions may be made to St. James Lutheran Church, Social Ministry Committee, 109 York Street, Gettysburg, PA 17325.
